Wedding photographer advice

If you are currently sourcing a wedding photographer in Warrington or anywhere for that matter, there are a few things that you should look out for when interviewing.

  • Anyone can walk into a camera shop and buy a digital camera and then walk out calling themselves a photographer these days, cameras are cheap and affordable, everybody has one even in their phones. Find out what experience the photographer has with weddings. They don’t need qualifications, just experience and skill. We hear lots of stories from couples who are upset about the state of their wedding photographs taken by someone who undercut or sometimes charged more than Oculus Studios. Of course there’s nothing we can do after the event. We are priced very competitively, amateurs come to our site just to check out, then undercut our prices. Hiring a cheap photographer can often lead to upset.

  • Ask to see a real wedding album that they have completed! Some photographers collect their best shots taken over 20 years and display them in an album to show clients. This isn’t a real reflection of their capability and quality. By asking to see a “real” wedding album, one which they have recently completed, you can gauge how your own wedding album could look! Oculus Studios asks clients if it is ok to show their album to other prospective clients.

  • Are they sociable and friendly? Wedding photographers have to be directors at a wedding by informing people where to go and how to pose. If a photographer lacks social skills or a sense of humour, they can make your wedding hell.

  • Do they use reliable equipment? Do they have spare “back up” equipment? Oculus Studios only uses professional equipment for wedding photography and event photography. We carry spares and even have spare photographers on hand for that unforeseen moment.

  • Ensure that you have a timeline of events, which outlines the time it takes to receive your final result. The process is Shoot > Proof > Choose > Order > Process > Deliver to customer. As the customer, you need to know how long it will take the photographer to proof your wedding photographs. Then when you have chosen your desired images from the proofs, how long will it take the wedding photographer to deliver your final result, whether it is a wedding album, coffee table book or just a set of wedding photographs.

We hope this information proves useful to you while sourcing your social photographer or wedding photographer, if you have any questions regarding this article, please contact us.
